Review:
Since the release of her first DVD featuring Tyros 1 Yamaha Club member Eileen Lowry has become known to other enthusiasts as something of a ‘friend in need’. Eileen isn’t a slick professional keyboard demonstrator - indeed, a huge part of the charm of her tutorial DVDs is that she is seen to play the instrument for the sheer joy of it, in just the same way as many of the people she tries to help. Eileen does, however, know her ‘knobs and switches’... and she makes it her business to explore every button and slider the instrument has to offer - before passing on the information via the DVD in her inimitable homely style.

As a keen enthusiast Eileen upgraded to the Tyros3 as soon as the instrument became available and she has now released a tutorial DVD giving a relaxed and informal explanation of the new features she has discovered. If I have one criticism (and it’s really more a note of caution to would-be buyers...) it is that Eileen assumes that her audience already has a prior knowledge of Yamaha keyboards and terminology because, throughout the DVD, she refers to features that have been included on previous models with little or no explanation of what they are or what they do. So if you’re brand new to Yamaha - and Tyros3 is your first  instrument - you may struggle a little.

Having said that, this tutorial is based on the new features of Tyros3 - and the majority of viewers will probably have upgraded, just like Eileen, from the original Tyros or Tyros2. If so, they will doubtless be relieved that the, sometimes tedious, feature descriptions have been sidelined. Anyway, in the event you should feel the need to check up on earlier features, Eileen’s DVDs on Tyros and Tyros2 are still available.
