It’s not without some sadness that we take our leave of Alvaston Hall after so long but, during the autumn last year, Grant Neal (of Sceptre Promotions) and Cath Madden (of Yamaha Club) visited a very promising new venue – and we believe they found a little gem for the Yamaha Club Weekend 2009!
The Oxford Belfry is set in 17 acres of beautiful countryside, just a short drive from the dreaming spires of Oxford. The hotel is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding attractions, including Blenheim Palace.
The hotel’s 154 elegant and spacious bedrooms are set around two courtyards with their flower borders and sparkling fountain. Light and airy corridors lead to a variety of lounges, where guests can sit and relax after a day of sight seeing, before dining in the award winning restaurant.
The Reflections leisure facilities include a heated indoor pool, gymnasium, sauna and two all weather tennis courts.
Although the Oxford Belfry isn’t a ‘character’ hotel in the sense of Alvaston’s old world charm, it’s location – just off the M40 – makes it very easy to find and, as a 4-star hotel offering prices at around £10 per head cheaper than Alvaston, it represents excellent value for money.
Because the Oxford Belfry is a purpose built conference venue it is, in many ways, far better suited to our needs than Alvaston. The meeting rooms are more plentiful, more spacious and better equipped. Cath thought the bedrooms were superb and, if her experience of the dining room is anything to go by, so is the food.
The hotel and surrounding area provides plenty for ‘non-musician’ partners to see and do and, judging from the initial response from Yamaha Club members many of you welcome the move to a venue a little further south too.

We’ll be hosting our evening concerts in one of the large conference rooms (set up here for a formal dinner). Sorry… we don’t yet have a picture of it set in theatre style for a concert.
It’s not all music. There’s plenty here for a non-playing partner to do too! All the usual concerts, workshops and tutorials will take place in rooms around the courtyard – and there are plenty of rooms available, so we should be able to provide a wide range of activities with something to suit everyone.
We’re never sure this far in advance which Yamaha artists will be attending the event but as always there’s sure to be a fine assortment of talent on hand to advise and encourage you in your music making.
