Chiho Sunamoto 1959-2018
Everyone in the ‘Yamaha Family’ will mourn the untimely passing of our much loved and admired friend Chiho Sunamoto on Monday 12th November. She was 59 years old – but so much a ‘girl’ at heart. We are all devastated by the loss of this beautiful, talented, loving, sometimes quirky, and often hilariously funny lady who has played such a huge part in our lives since she first arrived in the UK during the early-mid 1980s.
Our thoughts are with her husband Jon Smith who has been nursing her night and day during the last stages of her illness and with the wonderful friends of the couple who supported him. It was Chiho’s wish that her illness was kept secret and she continued to play concerts until very close to the end so, with the exception of close friends and a few people in the music world, her death will come as a shock to her many fans throughout the world.
Our hearts are full of sadness as we say goodbye… but those of us who were privileged to have been close to her are just thankful to have lived with her in our lives. Goodnight Chiho, thank you so much for just being!
